WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema cosponsored bipartisan legislation designating October 9th through October 15th as National Wildlife Refuge Week to highlight how Arizona’s nine national wildlife refuges provide the state with economic and recreational benefits.
“Our bipartisan resolution highlights Arizona’s nine wildlife refuges and recognizes their historic, cultural, and economic contributions that make our state the best in the country,” said Sinema.
The Sinema-backed bipartisan resolution details the economic benefits of our national wildlife refuge system, which has grown to include 568 refuges and 38 wetland management districts located in every state and U.S. territory. 61 million people visit national wildlife refuges annually and the system generates over $3.2 billion in economic activity for local economies and supports over 41,000 jobs each year.
Arizona’s nine national wildlife refuges are: Bill Williams National Wildlife Refuge, Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge, Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge, Cibola National Wildlife Refuge, Havasu National Wildlife Refuge, Imperial National Wildlife Refuge, Kofa National Wildlife Refuge, Leslie Canyon National Wildlife Refuge, and San Bernardino National Wildlife Refuge.
