Sinema introduced Roopali H. Desai to the Senate Judiciary Committee as Desai begins her confirmation hearing to serve as a Judge for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals

WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema introduced Roopali H. Desai to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee as Desai begins her confirmation hearing to serve as a federal judge for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. In her introduction, Sinema urged her colleagues on both sides of the aisle to support Desai’s nomination.

“Roopali is a tireless advocate for a better Arizona, and her commitment to the community extends beyond her legal cases… It is my honor and privilege to introduce Ms. Roopali H. Desai, and I urge my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to support her nomination to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, where I know she will serve our country with distinction,” said Sinema.

Sinema highlighted Desai’s Arizona roots, wealth of legal experience, Desai’s recognition as one of USA Today’s 2022 Women of the Year, and her volunteer work at The Family School in Phoenix helping families experiencing food insecurity have access to healthy, nutritious food. Sinema also highlighted Desai’s broad coalition of support among elected officials from across the political spectrum, respected legal experts, law enforcement organizations, and lawyers who served as opposing counsel in cases Desai litigated.

Roopali H. Desai is a partner at Coppersmith Brockelman where she has practiced since 2007. From 2006 to 2007, Ms. Desai was an associate at Lewis & Roca. She served as a law clerk for Chief Judge Mary Schroeder on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit from 2005 to 2006. Ms. Desai received her J.D. in 2005, her M.P.H in 2001, and her B.A. in 2000, all from the University of Arizona.

In June, Sinema applauded Desai’s nomination.
