Sinema wrote and sponsored the bipartisan legislation with Senators Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.)
Sinema’s legislation passed the Senate by a bipartisan vote of 65-33
WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema’s Bipartisan Safer Communities Act – legislation she championed with U.S. Senators Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) – was signed into law, after earning broad bipartisan support in the U.S. Senate by a vote of 65-33.
“American families for too long have seen unacceptable levels of violence that threaten their sense of safety and security. That is why Senators Murphy, Cornyn, Tillis, and I got to work – crafting a bipartisan, comprehensive law that protects America’s children, keeps our schools safe, and reduces the threat of violence across our country. Our law protects Americans’ constitutional rights, saves lives, and proves what we can achieve when we work together to solve problems,” said Sinema, one of the four sponsors of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.
Sinema’s Bipartisan Safer Communities Act includes support for state crisis intervention orders, investment in children and family mental health services, protections for victims of domestic violence, funding for school-based mental health and supportive services, funding for school safety resources, and more. The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act is fully offset and does not raise taxes on everyday Arizonans.
