Bipartisan, bicameral resolution honors memories of the deceased and offers condolences to their loved ones
WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema cosponsored a bipartisan, bicameral resolution honoring the 1,000,000 Americans who have died from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As our nation reaches this tragic milestone, we remember the lives and legacies of those we’ve lost to COVID-19. We offer our condolences to the families of the deceased, and recommit ourselves to combatting this deadly virus and preventing future pandemics,” said Sinema.
The bicameral resolution states that as of May 12, 2022 the United States reached 1,000,000 confirmed lives lost due to COVID-19, with the first known death from the virus occurring in February 2020.
Since the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sinema has led efforts to protect Arizonans’ health and safety. Earlier this year, Sinema and a group of 45 lawmakers from both parties in the U.S Senate and House called for the extension of expanded coverage of pandemic telehealth services. Sinema has also led members of the Arizona congressional delegation in urging the passage of sufficient COVID supplemental funding to meet the immediate needs of Arizona providers. In the letter, Sinema and members of the delegation advocated for additional support for providers testing, treating, and vaccinating Arizona’s most vulnerable populations.
