WASHINGTON – Arizona Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly joined Senate colleagues in calling on the Administration to help Arizona families and implement a national strategy for increasing the availability of infant formula, improving the current supply chain, and protecting against future shortages.
“After two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, parents and caregivers are exhausted. The last thing they need is to worry about finding safe infant formula to feed their babies—yet that is exactly the situation many find themselves in… We urge you to immediately assign a coordinator within the White House to work with manufacturers directly and oversee the development and implementation of a national strategy for increasing the resiliency of the infant formula supply chain and protecting against future contamination and shortages,” the Senators wrote.
In the Senators’ letter, they call on the Administration to appoint a White House coordinator to work with infant formula manufacturers and develop and implement a national strategy for addressing the current infant formula supply chain crisis and preventing future shortages. The Senators call for the strategy to also provide parents and caregivers information on where to find formula, how to transition from one formula to another, and what to do if a certain needed formula is unavailable.
The Senators also call on the Administration to outline a long-term strategy that enables information-sharing across federal, state, and local governments about shortages to improve coordination with manufacturers and retailers, and protects the health and safety of the infant formula supply chain.
