Senators and Transportation Secretary answered questions from Arizona mayors and local leaders on implementation of Sinema’s bipartisan infrastructure law that Kelly helped shape

WASHINGTON – Arizona Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly and U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg gave remarks and answered questions from Arizona mayors and local leaders of both parties on what the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs law – legislation Sinema negotiated and wrote and Kelly helped shape – means for Arizona.

“Arizona mayors and local leaders serve as critical partners in crafting legislation – like our bipartisan infrastructure law – that directly addresses the needs of Arizona communities. Our discussion with Secretary Buttigieg, Senator Kelly, and the League of Arizona Cities and Towns was a productive and useful conversation to ensure Arizona sees our infrastructure investments as soon as possible,” said Sinema, co-author and lead negotiator of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs law.

“After working with so many of our Arizona mayors and local leaders over the last year and visiting them in their communities, it was great to see them in Washington yesterday and join Senator Sinema and Secretary Buttigieg to discuss the investments coming to Arizona through to Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and our work together to pass legislation to bring microchips manufacturing back to American and Arizona,” said Kelly.

Sinema, Kelly, and Buttigieg centered their remarks around the bipartisan infrastructure law, and showcased the leadership of Arizona’s mayors as key partners in learning the needs of Arizona communities. Sinema underscored the mayors’ leadership as critically important while she continues her work in effectively implementing her bipartisan infrastructure law – ensuring Arizona gets its fair share. Buttigieg – a former mayor of South Bend, Ind. – remarked how important mayors are in serving the needs of their communities.

In early March, Sinema and Kelly held a virtual discussion with White House Infrastructure Coordinator Mitch Landrieu – a former mayor of New Orleans, La. – and Arizona mayors and county supervisors to discuss the implementation of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs law. This discussion and Q&A allowed mayors and local leaders across Arizona to ask questions, share concerns, and ideas with Sinema, Kelly, and Landrieu.

Sinema has been holding regular calls with local and Tribal leaders across Arizona about the implementation of her bipartisan infrastructure law. Last February, Sinema also toured Southern Arizona highlighting her work to ensure local and tribal communities get their fair share of funds from Sinema’s infrastructure law.
