Sinema Honors National Police Week and National Peace Officers Memorial Day

May 14, 2021

WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema recognized National Police Week and National Peace Officers Memorial Day and honored Arizona officers who lost their lives in the line of duty during 2020.

“Arizona’s law enforcement bravely risk their lives every day to keep our families and communities safe. Police Week represents an opportunity for all of us to show our thanks, honor the service of law enforcement, and remember those who lost their lives in the line of duty,” said Sinema.

This year, Arizona mourned the loss of Chandler police Officer Christopher Farrar who died in the line of duty in April. In 2020, Arizona lost three officers in the line of duty: Officer Jason W. Judd of the Peoria Police Department, Commander Greg Scott Carnicle of the Phoenix Police Department, and Officer David Wesley Kellywood of the White Mountain Apache Tribe Police Department.

In April, Sinema presented fallen Deputy U.S. Marshal Chase White with the Congressional Badge of Bravery Award, who was shot in the line of duty on November 29, 2018 while responding to a warrant for a dangerous fugitive who had been stalking a sergeant in the Tucson Police Department. Sinema presented the Congressional Badge of Bravery Award to Deputy Marshal White’s family during a virtual event to recognize and honor his legacy, life, and service to Arizona and the United States.
