Sinema continues her bipartisan work ensuring Arizona continues to be a leader in aviation jobs and innovation
WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema will lead a key Senate subcommittee on aviation in the 117th Congress.
As Chair of the Subcommittee on Aviation Safety, Operations, and Innovation, Sinema will lead bipartisan efforts on key issues for Arizona, including supporting Arizona’s growing aviation industry. Arizona’s aviation economy supports thousands of jobs across the state, boosts Arizona commerce, and is key to Arizona’s travel and tourism sector.
As aviation workers and companies work to recover from the pandemic, this subcommittee will support innovation and expanding job opportunities for Arizona’s airports, airlines, aerospace manufacturing, innovative aviation technologies, aviation safety, aviation security, workforce development, and consumer protection. Sinema’s subcommittee will also support the development of other innovative technologies necessary for aviation advancement, including the semiconductor industry.
“Arizona leads the nation in aviation and technological innovation—and these employers are major economic drivers for our country. I look forward to continuing our bipartisan efforts to further expand Arizona’s aviation industry, create jobs, and fuel new economic opportunities across our state,” said Sinema.
During the 116th Congress, Sinema served as ranking member of the Senate Aviation and Space Subcommittee.
Last Congress, Sinema passed into law her Airport Infrastructure Readiness (AIR) Act, a bipartisan bill which ensured that Arizona airports did not lose federal funding during the pandemic. Another one of Sinema’s bipartisan bills, the Expedited Delivery of Airport Infrastructure Act, which increases efficiency in the aviation system and saves Arizona taxpayers money by incentivizing airport construction projects to finish ahead of schedule, cleared the full Senate Commerce Committee hearing with broad bipartisan support.
