At VA Secretary Nomination Hearing, Sinema Discusses Ensuring All Arizona Veterans Receive the Care and Benefits They’ve Earned

Jan 27, 2021

WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema discussed the importance of ensuring all Arizona veterans receive the care and benefits they’ve earned in the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee’s nomination hearing for the VA Secretary, Denis McDonough.

“I’ll continue working directly with Arizona veterans, Senators on both sides of the aisle, and the VA to ensure Arizona’s veterans get the care and benefits they’ve earned, and I will hold the VA accountable if the agency falls short,” said Sinema.

Sinema discussed her bipartisan Ensuring Survivor Benefits During COVID Act and asked Mr. McDonough how he plans to address the concerns of survivors of veterans who passed from COVID-19.

Sinema also highlighted her efforts securing a Project ATLAS pilot site in Arizona, which will ensure Arizona veterans have access to telehealth services despite their location or connectivity access. Sinema asked Mr. McDonough to commit to working with her to expand telehealth opportunities for veterans in rural and tribal areas.

Additionally, Sinema questioned Mr. McDonough on his steps to support Native American veterans, including addressing homelessness, improving access to drinking water and sanitation, and expanding broadband access for Native American veterans.
