WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema urged FEMA to proactively mobilize emergency health care workers to Arizona and other states experiencing surges in coronavirus cases and facing health worker shortages.
“Coronavirus cases are surging in Arizona and our doctors and nurses are sounding the alarm. FEMA must act quickly and allow emergency health care workers to deploy to states in need so we can keep saving lives,” said Sinema.
In Arizona, coronavirus hospitalizations and ICU bed usage have risen rapidly since October 1st. Additionally, Banner Health and other health providers are warning that hospitalizations in Arizona could overwhelm health care systems this winter and worker shortages could be worse than during the summer surge.
Sinema is calling on FEMA to listen to warnings in Arizona and across the country and immediately extend emergency medical staffing so Arizona health care systems have the resources they need before a crisis arises.
