WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema called on the administration to continue supporting Arizona’s National Guard in its mission fighting the coronavirus pandemic.
“Arizona’s National Guard serve on the front lines of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The federal government must uphold its responsibility, support these brave servicemembers, and ensure they receive the resources they need,” said Sinema.
In May, following calls from Sinema, the administration reversed course and extended the National Guard’s coronavirus mission until mid-August, ensuring servicemembers are able to continue assisting Arizona during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic while receiving critical benefits they’ve earned. In early August, the administration announced a requirement that the majority of states pay 25% of the cost of National Guard on federal orders. Arizona will be subjected to this cost after September 30th absent a change of policy. In her letter, Sinema is calling on the administration to extend their full support until December 31, 2020.
