Sinema: Munds Park Post Office to Re-Open with New Contractor

Jul 21, 2020

WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema today announced that the U.S. Postal Service will re-open the Munds Park, Arizona Post Office after securing a new contractor.

“Re-opening the Munds Park Post Office ensures local residents will continue to have access to critical services they rely on,” said Sinema.

In July, the Munds Park Post Office contractor discontinued its work. Sinema and her team of social workers have diligently been in contact with the U.S. Postal Service regarding the quick re-opening of the facility. On July 16, the U.S. Postal Service secured a new contractor. Mail delivery has already resumed and regular retail services will resume soon at the post office.

Sinema is a longtime advocate of protecting postal service in Arizona. Sinema recently cosponsored a Senate resolution calling for increased funding and support for the United States Postal Service to protect service in Arizona communities. Sinema also successfully urged Congressional leaders to include $10 billion in loan authority for USPS in the CARES Act.

In addition to her work advocating for the U.S. Postal Service during the ongoing public health crisis, Sinema has long championed Arizona communities’ local postal service. Sinema led an Arizona Congressional delegation letter last year to support and protect postal standards in Arizona and ensure the Cherrybell postal processing plant in Tucson was not closed or consolidated. At a recent Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing, Sinema received commitments from two nominees to the Postal Service Board of Governors to look at updated data before considering any consolidation that would impact Cherrybell.
