WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema today applauded the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) decision to award more than $10 million in housing grants to Prescott, Sierra Vista, and Tucson.
“These grants will help Arizona communities access affordable housing and expand opportunity for all Arizonans,” said Sinema.
The HUD grants expand economic opportunities, help Arizonans regain stability in permanent housing, provide housing assistance and supportive services for low-income persons diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, and increase access to affordable housing for Arizona families.

Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) provide annual grants to States and local governments to develop viable urban communities through decent housing and suitable living environments, and by expanding economic opportunities for low- and moderate-income persons.
Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) provide annual grants to State, local, and private entities to assist people in quickly regaining stability in permanent housing after experiencing a housing crisis and/or homelessness. ESG also provides limited funding for street outreach as well as improving the quality and number of emergency homeless shelters.
HOME expands supply of affordable housing to low- and very low-income families by providing grants to States and local governments to fund housing programs that meet local needs and priorities.
HOPWA provides housing assistance and supportive services to local governments, States, and non-profit organizations for projects that benefit low-income persons medically diagnosed with HIV/AIDS and their families.
