Sinema Tours Casa de los Niños, Discusses Her Paid Parental Leave Proposal

Aug 23, 2019

TUCSON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema toured Casa de los Niños and met with staff and families that participate in the Nurse-Family Partnership program to discuss the positive impact their programs have on Arizona families. Sinema shared legislation she is working on in the Senate, including her paid parental leave proposal, to provide Arizona families the support they need.

“Casa de los Niños provides critical resources to thousands of first-time Arizona parents. I’m working across the aisle to support their efforts by championing legislation that helps families make ends meet,” said Sinema.

Casa de los Niños provides resources to Arizona parents to ensure children have access to a healthy and stable home. Through programs like the Nurse-Family Partnership, first-time parents have access to a free personal nurse that helps parents with prenatal care, education, and child development.

Sinema recently partnered with Republican Senator Bill Cassidy (La.) to develop a paid parental leave plan that allows families to receive support after the birth or adoption of a new child to finance time off of work, offset the cost of infant care, or both. Sinema’s bipartisan legislation allows parents to advance $5,000 from their Child Tax Credit and gives them the flexibility to decide how to use the benefit.
