PHOENIX – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema met with Grand Canyon National Park Acting Superintendent Woody Smeck to discuss efforts to strengthen telecommunications services and infrastructure at the Grand Canyon.
“The Grand Canyon draws thousands of people to Arizona, and up-to-date telecommunications services are critical for public safety. I’m partnering with Acting Superintendent Smeck to enhance cell service, internet speed, and radio communications to ensure the Grand Canyon remains a safe and stunning Arizona attraction,” said Sinema.
Sinema and Acting Superintendent Smeck discussed specific plans to enhance cell service, internet speed, and radio communications at the Grand Canyon to improve public safety and protect natural and cultural resources.
Sinema has led the effort in the U.S. Senate to improve connectivity for Arizonans in rural areas. As a longtime advocate for closing Arizona’s digital divide, Sinema is working to ensure every Arizonan can access quality high-speed internet and cell service. Earlier this year, Sinema introduced the bipartisan ACCESS Rural America Act – legislation that cuts red tape to encourage investment in broadband infrastructure for rural and tribal communities in Arizona.
