WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema applauded the National Park Service’s decision to formally add the Sandra Day O’Connor House in Tempe, Arizona to the National Register of Historic Places. Sinema wrote the Park Service in May asking them to list the house on the National Register and rightfully honor the legacy of Justice O’Connor.
“Sandra Day O’Connor is one of my heroes; she committed her life to civil discourse and paved the way for women to pursue a career in public service. Her home represents her work as a consensus builder and I am glad to see it rightfully placed on the National Register of Historic Places,” said Sinema.
In 2009, the Sandra Day O’Connor House was moved to Papago Park in Tempe, Arizona, where it stands as a center of civil discourse and supports the Sandra Day O’Connor Institute’s mission to further policy discussion in a non-partisan, objective, and inclusive way. Designation of the House on the National Registry of Historic Places formally recognizes Justice O’Connor’s accomplishments and cements the importance of preserving a collaborative space for civil discussion in Arizona.
