WASHINGTON — Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema met with eighth-graders from Phoenix’s Children First Leadership Academy visiting Washington, D.C.
“Education was my ticket to a better life. All Arizona kids deserve access to a good education, including after-school and summer learning opportunities, that give them their shot at the American Dream,” said Sinema.
The Children First Leadership Academy (CFLA) provides educational services and resources to students with wide-ranging social, emotional, and academic needs, in a safe, stable, and empowering environment. CFLA utilizes federal 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) grants to provide after-school academic programs and extend the learning day for students.
Earlier this year, Sinema voted for a spending package that funded 21st CCLC at $1.2 billion for this fiscal year. Sinema also signed on a letter asking appropriators to provide funding of $1.3 billion for 21st CCLC in Fiscal Year 2020.
