Senator continues her oversight of the VA in Senate hearing on inefficient and duplicative government programs

WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema at a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing questioned the U.S. Comptroller General over VA, HHS, and DOD programs on the Government Accountability Office’s report of redundant and inefficient programs.

“Arizonans expect and demand a government that is efficient, effective, responsive, and transparent,” said Sinema, Ranking Member of the Senate Subcommittee on Regulatory Affairs and Federal Management.

The U.S. Comptroller General presented the annual Duplication Report to the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. The report looks across the federal government and recommends ways to improve efficiencies and reduce redundancies.

Sinema questioned GAO about the recommendation that the Defense Health Agency improve tracking of instances where patients are or could have been harmed. Sinema also asked what the VA needs to do to improve its ability to manage budgets for VA Medical Facility Construction. Finally, Sinema questioned how comprehensive reporting across governmental agencies, including HHS and the VA, would help Arizona’s primary care doctor shortage.
