May 2, 2019

WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema met with Yuma, Arizona Mayor Douglas Nicholls to discuss ongoing challenges at the border and Yuma’s economic growth.

“I’m working to meet the challenges Arizona communities face, including securing the border and growing job opportunities,” said Sinema.

Sinema discussed with Mayor Nicholls the ongoing migrant crisis in Yuma and offered her office as a resource to address the concerns of the Yuma community. Last week, Sinema held a roundtable with key non-governmental, Customs and Border Protection, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement leaders to identify solutions to the migrant crisis in Arizona. Specifically, the group identified transportation solutions that will help alleviate the stress on Arizona communities, including the city of Yuma.

Sinema also discussed how she is fighting to protect military projects at MCAS Yuma and Yuma Proving Ground. Yuma’s military installations are critical to Arizona’s economy and our country’s national security.

Sinema expressed her commitment to protect the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area, by joining her colleagues in requesting $32 million for the National Heritage Area program. Additionally, Sinema is continuing her work to secure funding for the Highway 95 Expansion Project that is critical for Yuma’s future economic viability.
