Senators Kelly and Sinema announce over $12 million in workforce training grants

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) – The Arizona Department of Labor Labor H-1B One Workforce Grants is awarding than $12 million to prepare hardworking Arizonans for the jobs of the future.
 
Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly made the announcement in a news release on Monday, Jan. 25.
 
The Department of Labor awarded Pima County $4,000,000 and the Arizona Board of Regents, on behalf of ASU, $8,029,594 to help train Arizona workers for jobs in cybersecurity, manufacturing, and transportation.
 
“As we continue to rebuild our state’s economy, these grants bring key investments that will support the growth of a strong Arizona workforce and get Arizonans the skills for jobs in emerging industries,” said Kelly.
 
The grants help build innovative training models that can be replicated by the broader workforce. By forging public-private partnerships, applicants bring several departments together to work collaboratively to offer education and job training solutions to grow the economy and get Americans back to work.
 
“Today’s investment in skills training and education gets hardworking Arizonans the tools to succeed in good-paying jobs of the future while continuing to expand Arizona’s economic opportunities,” said Sinema.
 
Grant recipients include institutions of higher education, entities involved in administering the workforce investment system established under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, non-profit organizations and economic development organizations.
