CG would get $130K for public transportation under Sinema’s bill

Casa Grande Dispatch

WASHINGTON – Casa Grande will receive increased funding for public transportation under a bill introduced by Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema.

The bipartisan Small Community Transit Improvement Act increases the amount of federal funding for public transportation in Casa Grande by over $130,000.

“Investing in Casa Grande’s public transportation system will create jobs and expand opportunities for the city. I’ll keep partnering with Arizona communities to support critical infrastructure investments,” Sinema said in a press release.

The Small Transit Intensive Cities (STIC) program was created in 2005 and increases federal public transit funding for communities with highly-used public transit systems serving populations between 50,000 and 200,000.

In 2019, Arizona communities received over $1.8 million from the STIC program.

Earlier this year, Sinema introduced the bipartisan Moving FIRST Act, which enhances and modernizes the transportation systems of American cities by encouraging the use of innovative technology. Recently, Sinema requested, and helped secure, over $90 million in resources from the Department of Transportation for Arizona’s 1-17. Sinema also recently helped secure $75 million from the Federal Transit Administration for the Tempe Streetcar.
