The Affordable Connectivity Programhelps over 400,000 Arizona households access high-speed internet
WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema and a group of senators urged Congressionalleaders in both parties to extend funding for the Affordable Broadband Connectivity Program (ACP) – which was established by the bipartisan infrastructurelaw Sinema wrote, negotiated, and led through Congress.
Sinema and her colleagues detailed how the ACP has connected millions of Americans to broadband services they would otherwise struggle to afford – allowing them to advance their education, create strong economic opportunities, and access the care they need to thrive. In Arizona, the ACP provides financial assistance forbroadband services to over 400,000 households.
“Extending funding for this program will help over 400,000 Arizona households access affordable high-speed internet. Thanks to our bipartisaninfrastructure law, we’re bridging the digital divide so Arizonans in all corners of our state can thrive,” said Sinema.
Without an extension and proper funding, millions of Americans could be at risk of losing access to high-speed internet, including essential access to work, school, and health care services.
Sinema’s bipartisan infrastructure law makes historic and sweeping investments in repairing and upgrading America’s critical infrastructure, including $65 billion to deploy high-speed broadband, expand broadbandinternet access, and help families afford broadbandservice.
Specifically, the law invests over $14 billion to make the internet more affordable and requires internet providers to offer a low-cost option to participate in federal broadband deployment funding. Following passage of the infrastructure law, the Federal Communications Commission established the Affordable Connectivity Program using the fundingSinema secured to help Arizonans access affordable internet. The program provides eligible families $30 a month toward their internet bills and $75 a month toward internet service in tribal areas.
