Sinema Delivers Nearly $64 Million for Water Conservation Agreements to Strengthen Arizona’s Water Supply

Nov 9, 2023

Sinema secured the necessary funding to reach agreements conserving water and protecting the health of the Colorado River System

WASHINGTON – Nearly $64 million will be invested across Arizona to fulfill new water conservation agreements critical to Arizona’s water future and the long-term health of the Colorado River System, thanks to key investments secured by Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema in her bipartisan infrastructure law and last year’s historic climate and energy law.

The seven new conservation agreements – including from tribal communities, local municipalities, and a farm – will conserve up to 162,710-acre feet of water in Lake Mead through 2026.

Between Sinema’s bipartisan infrastructure law and last year’s historic climate and energy law, the Senator has secured more than $12 billion in drought relief and Western water funding that made this investment possible.

“Our work on behalf of Arizona has yielded historic, lasting results for our state. The nearly $64 million for critical conservation projects, out of funding I secured, will help combat record drought conditions and strengthen Arizona’s – and the entire West’s – water future for generations to come,” said Sinema.
