Sinema highlighted how her colleagues stopped a robust amendment process by voting no to debate and amend her bipartisan border security package
WASHINGTON – On the Senate floor, Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema questioned why her colleagues voted to end debate and stop the amendment process by voting “no” on her bipartisan border security bill if they wanted to debate the bill and ensure a robust amendment process.

Sinema reminded her colleagues that, in order to proceed to an amendment process, you must pass the motion to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed. Yesterday, the same colleagues who now ask for an amendment process voted “no” to begin the process of debating and amending the border bill.
Sinema crafted a bipartisan border bill through months of good faith negotiations with Republican Senator James Lankford (Okla.) and Democratic Senator Chris Murphy (Conn.). The bill reasserts control of the border, protects border communities, disrupts the flow of fentanyl into the country, and solves the border crisis by ending catch and release, strengthening our asylum system by delivering determinations efficiently and fairly, enhancing security, and improving the legal immigration system.
