SWTA’s Legislator of the Year award recognizes a legislator from the Southwestern region for outstanding commitment to supporting public transit providers

WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema was honored with the South West Transit Association’s (SWTA) Legislator of the Year Award for her work delivering record investments strengthening and expanding public transportation across Arizona.

Sinema negotiated, wrote, and led the landmark bipartisan infrastructure law, which makes the strongest ever investment in American public transit with $39.2 billion to expand transit systems, increase accessibility, and fund the nation’s transit system repair backlog.

Since its passage in November 2021, Sinema’s bipartisan infrastructure law has delivered over $349 million to improve public transportation options and access across the state.

“By working side by side with Arizona transit experts and local leaders, we’ve delivered historic investments strengthening public transportation safety, access, and efficiency. It’s an honor to receive this award,” said Sinema, co-author and lead negotiator of the bipartisan infrastructure law.

Sinema’s bipartisan infrastructure law led to record levels of public transportation investment and job creation. It represents the biggest ever investment in transit safety, access, modernization, and fuel efficiency.

Each year, SWTA members gather to share advocacy efforts and latest news in their states and communities and present the Legislator of the Year Award. Since 1980, SWTA has strengthened their members’ ability to provide public transportation and mobility services across the region through education, communication, and advocacy.
