Senate resolution recognizes April 20 – 28 as National Park Week
WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema cosponsored a bipartisan resolution designating April 20 through April 28 as National Park Week to celebrate the National Park System’s work protecting Arizona’s natural resources and providing recreational and economic benefits for all to enjoy.
“Arizona’s National Parks are an important part of our state’s history, heritage, and strength. This week – and every week – we honor our commitment to protecting Arizona’s public lands for generations to come,” said Sinema.
Arizona is home to 24 National Park units, including one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Grand Canyon. This bipartisan resolution encourages all people to responsibly visit, experience, recreate in, and support the more than 400 national parks of the United States.
Sinema’s bipartisan resolution is the latest step in her work supporting National Parks and protecting Arizona’s natural resources. Last year, Sinema negotiated the Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni National Monument Act – legislation designating 1,069,970 acres of federal lands as a new Grand Canyon National Monument to protect and enhance the area. Additionally, Sinema’s bipartisan Alexander Lofgren Veterans in Parks Act ensures Arizona veterans and Gold Star Families can receive lifetime passes to access public lands for free.
