Sinema’s bipartisan resolution designates May 15 as National Senior Fraud Awareness Day
WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema and Republican Senator Susan Collins (Maine) introduced a bipartisan resolution designating May 15 as National Senior Fraud Awareness Day.
Sinema and Collins’ resolution passed the Senate unanimously.
“After a lifetime of hard work, Arizona seniors should be free to live out their golden years with dignity – without fear of scammers. We’re raising awareness to help them combat fraud and protect their hard-earned savings,” said Sinema.
“Combatting fraud has long been one of my top priorities. Raising awareness about fraud is key to protecting seniors’ hard-earned savings, particularly among older Americans who are more likely to be targeted,” said Collins. “We have made substantial progress to protect seniors, and we must not relent in our efforts to stop con artists. By raising awareness, our resolution will help prevent seniors from becoming victims of fraud.”
Last year, the FBI found that seniors lost more than $3.4 billion to fraud, an 11% increase in reported losses from 2022.
