Senator discussed the Arizona Veterans of Foreign Wars’ priorities with National Legislative Officer Jim Ellars

WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema met with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Department of Arizona’s National Legislative Officer Jim Ellars and his wife, Rayolene Ellars, of the VFW Auxiliary of Arizona, to discuss the veteran community’s legislative priorities.

“Input from Arizonans fuels my work in the Senate – and coming from a military family, I take seriously my responsibility to deliver lasting solutions for our veteran community. I’ll keep working side-by-side with partners like the Arizona VFW to do just that,” said Sinema, a member of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee.

Sinema discussed with the Arizona VFW her work delivering real results for the veteran and servicemember community – including recent Senate passage of two of her bipartisan bills supporting Arizona servicemembers and their families. The Senator’s Military Spouse Employment Act ensures military spouses may continue their careers no matter where military life takes them. Sinema’s COMFORT Act boosts access to counseling services on military stations.

Sinema thanked the Arizona VFW for their advocacy and outreach on Sinema’s PACT Act– the bipartisan law Sinema worked to pass last year strengthening veterans’ access to critical health care and enhanced benefits.

Locally focused and responsive to Arizona veterans’ needs, Sinema and her Veteran Advisory Council work on empowering veterans to build better lives, addressing mental health, supporting military families, and improving VA health care.

Sinema was an original cosponsor of the bipartisan Veterans Mileage Adjustment Act of 2022 – legislation helping Arizona veterans access the care they’ve earned by increasing the mileage reimbursement rate for Arizona veterans making trips to the VA – and a cosponsor of the bipartisan Elizabeth Dole Home Care Act of 2022 which expands VA caregiver programs to increase resources for veterans and caregivers in need of assistance.
