Sinema, a border state Senator, emphasized how each and every Senator takes an oath of office to answer to their state and country – not political candidates
WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema joined CNN’s State of the Race with Jessica Dean to discuss the national security legislation Congress is considering, and reject the narrative that Senators can shove off their decision-making onto one political candidate or the other. Noting how the border crisis in Arizona continues when elected officials choose to do nothing, Sinema encouraged her colleagues to take responsibility for their own decisions and do what’s right for their state and country, regardless of their political party.

Sinema crafted a bipartisan border bill through months of good faith negotiations with Republican Senator James Lankford (Okla.) and Democratic Senator Chris Murphy (Conn.). The bill reasserts control of the border, protects border communities, disrupts the flow of fentanyl into the country, and solves the border crisis by ending catch and release, strengthening our asylum system by delivering determinations efficiently and fairly, enhancing security, and improving the legal immigration system.
