Senator’s bill requires plain word summaries accompany regulations
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Senate unanimously approved bipartisan legislation from Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema and Republican Senator James Lankford’s (Okla.). The Providing Accountability Through Transparency Act—simplifies government rulemaking and increases transparency by requiring every proposed regulation be accompanied with a 100-word plain language summary. The bill now heads to the U.S. House.
“The federal government must be accessible to everyday Arizonans. Plain language summaries ensure the government is accountable and answers to its people,” said Sinema.
Sinema is ranking member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Subcommittee on Regulatory Affairs and Federal Management where is she is working with Chairman Lankford to advance commonsense regulatory reform legislation. In addition to their Providing Accountability Through Transparency Act, they also have passed their SMART Act and their GOOD Act through committee.
