Desai now advances to full U.S. Senate consideration
WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema applauded the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee’s advancement of Roopali H. Desai’s nomination to serve as a federal judge for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Sinema urged her colleagues on both sides of the aisle to support Desai’s nomination.
“Roopali is a trusted legal expert highly regarded by Arizonans on both sides of the aisle. She is known for her integrity and fairness, and I am confident she will serve our country with distinction as a judge on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. I look forward to her confirmation by the U.S. Senate,” said Sinema.
Roopali Desai advanced out of the Senate Judiciary Committee following Sinema’s advocacy. Sinema introduced Roopali Desai at her Senate Judiciary confirmation hearing where she highlighted Desai’s Arizona roots, wealth of legal experience, Desai’s recognition as one of USA Today’s 2022 Women of the Year, and her volunteer work at The Family School in Phoenix helping families experiencing food insecurity have access to healthy, nutritious food. Sinema also highlighted Desai’s broad coalition of support among elected officials from across the political spectrum, respected legal experts, law enforcement organizations, and lawyers who served as opposing counsel in cases Desai litigated.
Roopali H. Desai is a partner at Coppersmith Brockelman where she has practiced since 2007. From 2006 to 2007, Ms. Desai was an associate at Lewis & Roca. She served as a law clerk for Chief Judge Mary Schroeder on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit from 2005 to 2006. Ms. Desai received her J.D. in 2005, her M.P.H in 2001, and her B.A. in 2000, all from the University of Arizona.
In June, Sinema applauded Desai’s nomination.
