WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema led members of the Arizona Congressional Delegation in urging the Administration to swiftly consider and approve a major disaster declaration for the San Carlos Apache Tribe, as a result of the Watch Fire.

“We’re urging the administration to swiftly consider and approve the San Carlos Apache Tribe’s request for a major disaster declaration, so the Tribe may access the federal resources necessary to recover from the devastating Watch Fire,” said Sinema.

Arizona Senator Mark Kelly and Representatives David Schweikert (AZ-01), Eli Crane (AZ-02), Ruben Gallego (AZ-03), Greg Stanton (AZ-04), Andy Biggs (AZ-05), Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06), Raúl Grijalva (AZ-07), and Paul Gosar (AZ-09) signed on to Sinema’s letter.

During the period of July 10 to 17, 2024, the Watch Fire burned approximately 2,162 acres over four days, destroying 21 homes and 13 auxiliary structures, and affecting an additional seven homes. As a result, 75 residents are now homeless.
