Sinema-Backed Bill Increases Investment in Affordable Housing for Arizona Communities

Jul 1, 2019

WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema cosponsored the bipartisan Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act—legislation that increases investment in affordable housing for Arizona communities.

“The rising cost of rental housing across our state is making it harder for Arizonans to take care of their families and plan for the future. Our bipartisan bill supports thousands of Arizona jobs and creates more affordable housing options for all Arizonans,” said Sinema.

The bipartisan Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act strengthens Low Income Housing Tax Credits which help communities in Arizona by facilitating construction of affordable housing across the state. This bipartisan legislation incentivizes developers to build more affordable housing, especially for rural, tribal, and veteran residents, creating more options for Arizona families in need and spurring investment in underserved communities.

Housing tax credits support 58,000 Arizona jobs a year and serve 121,000 low-income Arizona households. Sinema also championed this bipartisan legislation while serving in the U.S. House.
