The bipartisan Protecting Firefighters from Adverse Substance Act passed the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee
WASHINGTON – The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee passed a bipartisan bill cosponsored by Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema. The Protecting Firefighters from Adverse Substance Act, which protects firefighters and emergency response personnel from PFAS chemicals found in firefighting foams, now heads to the Senate floor.
“Arizona firefighters put their lives on the line to protect us, and we must protect them from dangerous chemicals they are exposed to every day,” said Sinema.
The Protecting Firefighters from Adverse Substance Act directs FEMA to develop educational resources to protect firefighters, emergency response personnel, and local communities from PFAS exposure. PFAS is a group of man-made chemicals, common in firefighting foams.
The Protecting Firefighters from Adverse Substance Act is supported by the International Association of Firefighters, the National Volunteer Fire Council, and the International Association of Fire Chiefs.
