Sinema Bipartisan Bill Ensures Veterans, Servicemembers, Gold Star Families Receive Free Annual National Park Passes

WASHINGTON – Arizona’s senior U.S. Senator Kyrsten Sinema introduced the Alexander Lofgren Veterans in Parks Act—bipartisan legislation that provides free annual passes to current military members and lifetime passes to veterans and members of Gold Star Families.

“Arizona’s veterans, servicemembers, and Gold Star Families make incredible sacrifices to keep our country safe and secure. Our bipartisan legislation represents a small thanks for their brave service and promotes access to our beautiful national parks,” said Sinema, a member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee.

Sinema’s Alexander Lofgren Veterans in Parks Act improves and codifies a Department of Interior program that provides free annual National Park passes to service members, veterans, and Gold Star Families. The legislation was named after Alexander Lofgren, an Arizona veteran and member of Sinema’s Veteran Advisory Council who lost his life in 2020 while hiking.

Last Congress, Sinema cosponsored the bipartisan Accelerating Veterans Recovery Outdoors Act, which establishes a taskforce, co-chaired by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs and Secretary of Interior, that identifies opportunities to public lands access for the rehabilitation and therapy of veterans.
