WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema celebrated Arizonan Roopali Desai’s U.S. Senate confirmation as a federal judge for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

“Arizona is proud of Roopali Desai’s confirmation to be a U.S. Judge for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Ms. Desai is known and respected for her integrity, fairness, and wealth of legal knowledge, and I’m delighted to secure the broad bipartisan votes for her confirmation. As a judge, Ms. Desai will make Arizona and America proud,” said Sinema.

In July, Sinema introduced Ms. Desai to the Senate Judiciary Committee – personally attesting to the judge’s wealth of legal experience, Arizona roots, volunteer work, and national recognition as USA Today’s 2022 Women of the Year. Ms. Desai volunteered at The Family School in Phoenix – helping families experiencing food insecurity have access to healthy, nutritious food. During the hearing, Sinema highlighted Ms. Desai’s broad coalition of support among elected officials from across the political spectrum, respected legal experts, law enforcement organizations, and lawyers who served as opposing counsel in cases Ms. Desai litigated.

Sinema personally ensured Ms. Desai’s timely Senate confirmation – earning robust support from senators on both sides of the aisle for Ms. Desai’s wealth of experience, academic prowess, and personal integrity. The senator secured the bipartisan votes in two months.

Roopali H. Desai is a partner at Coppersmith Brockelman where she has practiced since 2007. From 2006 to 2007, Ms. Desai was an associate at Lewis & Roca. She served as a law clerk for Chief Judge Mary Schroeder on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit from 2005 to 2006.
