Sinema Hosts Roundtable Discussion with Transportation Secretary and Senator Kelly on Supply Chain Challenges, Infrastructure Law

Sinema’s bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act—signed into law this week—makes significant investments to boost jobs, expand economic opportunity, and reduce supply chain bottlenecks in Arizona

MESA – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema, U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly led a roundtable with Arizona transportation stakeholders to discuss how Sinema’s historic, bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act—which was signed into law earlier this week—makes critical investments to boost jobs, expand economic opportunity, and address supply chain challenges in Arizona.

“Our historic legislation strengthens Arizona’s—and America’s—competitiveness by making significant investments to modernize and bolster our infrastructure, helping fix our supply chain challenges and create jobs across Arizona,” said Sinema.

Sinema, Buttigieg, and Kelly discussed with local transportation stakeholders about the current global supply chain challenges, particularly those in Arizona, such as issues related to trucking and freight rail. Sinema’s bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act law includes significant funding to address long-term needs for improving ports, moving freight around the country, and reducing bottlenecks.

Sinema’s bipartisan infrastructure law included nearly $845 million per year for highway-rail grade crossing safety and elimination projects and an average of $5.55 billion per year for discretionary infrastructure grant programs. These funds include $1 billion per year for the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvement grant program, which provides essential support for short line and passenger railroads and state departments of transportation.

The largest investment in highways and bridges in America’s history, Sinema’s infrastructure law authorizes $477 billion in new funding over the next five years for surface transportation program, including $347.5 billion for highways and $37 billion for bridges.  The infrastructure law also bolsters highway safety by making long-overdue investments in Arizona’s roads and bridges and helps grow and strengthen the trucking’s workforce by establishing new recruitment and training programs.

Sinema’s legislation earned the support of The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Business Roundtable, The National Association of Manufacturers, The AFL-CIO, The National Retail Federation, The Bipartisan Policy Center, North America’s Building Trades Unions, the Outdoor Industry Association, The American Hotel and Lodging Association, The National Education Association, as well as hundreds of mayors across all 50 states.
