The Hopi Tribe and Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community were awarded nearly $30 million in climate pollution reduction grants
WASHINGTON – Arizona Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly announced $29,854,445 to improve air quality for the Hopi Tribe and Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. These climate pollution reduction grants – provided through the Sinema and Kelly shaped Inflation Reduction Act – will support projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other dangerous air pollutants.
“We’re proud to deliver nearly $30 million to improve air quality and protect Arizona tribal communities from dangerous pollutants – ensuring Arizona remains a healthy and safe place to call home,” said Sinema.
“As Arizona continues to face the impacts of climate change, these grants in pollution reduction and clean energy infrastructure are critical to protecting our communities and environment,” said Kelly. “Arizona’s Tribal communities have long been at the forefront of developing effective solutions to the climate crisis, and I’m proud that Inflation Reduction Act funds will continue to support that important work.”
The funds were awarded by the Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) program, which provides nearly $5 billion in grants to states, local governments, tribes, and territories to develop and implement ambitious plans for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other harmful air pollution.
The Environmental Justice Government-to-Government (EJG2G) program provides funding at the state, local, territorial, and tribal level to support government activities that lead to measurable environmental or public health impacts in communities disproportionately burdened by environmental harms.
