Sinema, Kelly Secure $1.7 Million in COVID-Relief for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe

Dec 7, 2021

WASHINGTON – Arizona Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly announced that the Pascua Yaqui Tribe was awarded $1,725,000 million in coronavirus-relief funds, which the Senators helped secure through the America Rescue Plan passed earlier this year.

“Today’s grant funding supports the Pascua Yaqui Tribe’s COVID-19 response by fueling the construction of several public health facilities, directly helping families impacted by COVID-19,” said Sinema.

“I’ve been working since day one to get tribal communities the resources they need to respond to and recover from the pandemic. This funding we helped secure will help the Pascua Yaqui Tribe prevent the spread of COVID-19 and ensure the health and safety of Pascua Yaqui families,” said Kelly.

The Indian Community Development Block Grant provides federal support for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe’s prevention, preparation, and response to the coronavirus pandemic. The Pascua Yaqui Tribe will utilize these funds to construct several public health and wellness facilities on the reservation, which will provide health care and serve as a temporary shelter for families impacted by COVID-19. This grant was funded through coronavirus-relief legislation Senators Sinema and Kelly helped pass this year.

Sinema’s bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act law, that Kelly also helped pass into law, makes a $3.5 billion investment in the Indian Health Service Sanitation Facilities Construction program for water infrastructure and resiliency.
