Senator and Mayor discuss steps to address Arizona migrant crisis

WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema met this week with Mesa Mayor John Giles to discuss steps to address the migrant crisis along the border.

“I’m working across the aisle and with local leaders on solutions to the migrant crisis Arizona communities face,” said Sinema, a member of the Homeland Security Committee.

Three weeks ago, Sinema toured the Southern Border to hear directly from people on the ground about the critical migrant situation. Sinema also held a roundtable with key NGOs, Customs and Border Protection, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement leaders to identify solutions to the migrant crisis in Arizona. The group specifically identified transportation solutions that will help alleviate the stress on some Arizona communities. Sinema continues to work closely with local officials, NGOs, and DHS as they develop and deploy resources to assist Arizona communities.

Sinema is continuing to work with local leaders and her Senate colleagues to stop the flow of migrants to the southern border and ensure humane treatment of migrants who do arrive.
