WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema today met with Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, nominee to serve as Associate Justice on the U.S. Supreme Court, ahead of her Senate Judiciary Committee nomination hearings.
“As I promised Arizonans, I am carefully considering Judge Jackson’s nomination. Today, we had a very productive meeting and I welcomed hearing directly her belief in the importance of an independent judiciary, her judicial philosophy, and her approach to precedent. I look forward to watching her nomination hearings ahead of a Senate vote,” said Sinema.
Since being elected to the Senate, Sinema has consistently applied the same three criteria to all judicial nominees considered by the Senate: whether they are professionally qualified, believe in the role of an independent judiciary, and can be trusted to faithfully interpret and uphold the rule of law. Last year, Sinema voted to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
