Senator discussed her support for food assistance programs and Arizona priorities in upcoming Farm Bill
WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema met with Malea Chavez, CEO of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, to discuss food assistance programs and ongoing work on the upcoming bipartisan Farm Bill.
“Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona works tirelessly to fight hunger, and I’m partnering with them to ensure we’re meeting the food assistance needs of vulnerable Arizonans and using the upcoming bipartisan Farm Bill to provide necessary resources to help our farmers feed Arizona families experiencing hunger,” said Sinema, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
As a Senate appropriator, Sinema is involved in the negotiations to fund important food and nutrition programs included in appropriation bills and in advocating for Arizona priorities in the Farm Bill, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). Sinema, who experienced homelessness and food insecurity when growing up, has been a long term and strong supporter for food and nutrition programs like SNAP and TEFAP to feed Arizona families.
The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona is a non-profit organization that provides emergency food assistance and free meal and partners with over 400 organizations to serve five counties in Southern Arizona.
