Sinema Statement Following Administration Briefing on Afghanistan

Aug 18, 2021

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kyrsten Sinema released the following statement after her office participated in an administration briefing on events in Afghanistan:

“The administration must immediately implement a more coordinated, robust effort to evacuate Americans, and Afghans who supported our mission, from Afghanistan. Our office continues to receive many requests for assistance, and the administration’s current process for such cases is inadequate. Moving forward, the administration must take sustained measures to prevent U.S. arms and equipment from falling into the hands of the Taliban – and ensure that terrorist groups such as the Islamic State cannot reconstitute and inspire future attacks against American national security interests. We must also make it known that, despite events in Afghanistan, American resolve to ensure the protection of our strategic global allies is unshakeable.”
