Sinema Statement on Arizona Legislature’s Bipartisan Repeal of 1864 Law Banning Abortions in Nearly All Circumstances

WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema released the following statement on the Arizona Legislature’s bipartisan repeal of the 1864 law banning abortions in nearly all circumstances.

“A woman’s health care decisions should be between her, her doctor, and her family. The Arizona Legislature made the right choice by coming together in a bipartisan way to repeal the 1864 law that would have banned abortions in nearly all cases and punished doctors for providing critical care. More must be done to safeguard women’s health, safety, and well-being, and I will continue working with anyone to protect Arizona women’s ability to make their own decisions about their futures.”

Sinema has repeatedly voted in favor and championed efforts protecting women’s right to make decisions about their health and to support doctors providing care for their patients. The Senator is an original cosponsor of the Women’s Health Protection Act – legislation preventing the government from placing restrictions on women’s access to health care – and introduced the bipartisan Reproductive Freedom For All Act to protect Arizona women’s abilities to make their own health care decisions.
