Fort Huachuca established the John R. Fox Multi-Domain Operations (MDO) Non-Kinetic Range Complex last year to strengthen military preparedness

FORT HUACHUCA – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema toured Fort Huachuca’s new John R. Fox Multi-Domain Operations (MDO) Non-Kinetic Range Complex with Chief of Staff of the Army General Randy George.

Fort Huachuca established the first and only Army range dedicated solely to training and enhancing the Army’s MDO warfighting skills.

“With the completion of the John R. Fox MDO Range Complex, Fort Huachuca will lead the way in strengthening military preparedness to meet the ever-changing nature of war – ensuring our national defense remains strong and we’re ready for whatever comes our way,” said Sinema.

Competition and conflict on present and future battlefields will require a multi-domain approach. In October 2022, the U.S. Army established MDO as its operational concept with the theme, “Building the Army of 2030.” MDO requires an understanding of how land forces influence the other four domains of warfare (sea, air, space, and cyberspace/information) and how capabilities applied in those domains influence the outcome on land.

Sinema and fellow Arizona Senator Mark Kelly secured the Western Regional Range Complex concept in last year’s annual bipartisan defense legislation, which revolves around Fort Huachuca’s MDO Test and Training Range. The concept engages nearby training ranges managed by Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Luke Air Force Base, and Yuma Marine Corps Air Station, among others, to enable a joint, regional training complex that includes a contested electromagnetic environment.

Sinema secured multiple additional wins for Fort Huachuca in the annual bipartisan defense legislation. Specifically, the legislation directed the U.S. Department of Defense to renew focus on Electronic Warfare and Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations, which Fort Huachuca will play a central role in executing; directed the Joint Chiefs of Staff and DOD Research & Engineering to examine opportunities to strengthen capabilities at electronic warfare ranges like Fort Huachuca; directed the Army to provide an update on plans to complete the land conveyance between Fort Huachuca and the City of Sierra Vista which supports both municipal use and the Fort’s master plan; supports partnerships between military health facilities and local hospitals and directs an independent study on opportunities to strengthen these partnerships in rural communities near military installations; and increased Impact Aid program funding, which benefits Arizona schools including the Fort Huachuca School District and Sierra Vista Public Schools.
