Sinema’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Delivers Over $500 Million to Strengthen Arizona’s Water Future

Dec 2, 2021

The Sinema-led Infrastructure Investment and Jobs law includes the single largest water investment in U.S. history

WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema announced that over $500 million is headed to Arizona to strengthen the state’s water systems and water security—funded through Sinema’s bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs law.

“Arizona jobs, economic opportunities, and the health of our communities all depend on clean and sustainable water – which is why our bipartisan infrastructure law makes historic investments that strengthen our critical water systems,” said Sinema, co-author and negotiator of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will deliver an estimated $109,458,000 each year over the next five years to Arizona beginning in 2022. These funds were possible through Sinema’s work as co-author and lead negotiator on the historic bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Sinema’s law does not raise taxes on everyday Americans and earned a broad, bipartisan 69-30 vote in the U.S. Senate.

Sinema’s bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act law makes the strongest investment in clean drinking water and wastewater infrastructure in U.S. history, delivering clean water to millions of American families – and more than $8 billion to strengthen water infrastructure throughout the American West, such as aging infrastructure, water storage, water recycling, drought contingency plans and damn safety. This funding specifically includes over the next five years $300 million for water reclamation operations under the Colorado River Drought Contingency Plan. Of this funding, $250 million is for the Bureau of Reclamation to create or conserve 100,000 acre feet of water annually for the Lower Colorado River Basin at Lake Mead.
